L4 ICW and Update

Dates: August 11–14, 2025
Location: Narragansett, Rhode Island

Join Jeff Atkins and Dov Neimand for a Level 4 Open Water Coastal Kayak (OWCK) Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) and Instructor Update in Narragansett, Rhode Island. This four-day course based out of Fishermen's Memorial State Park and Campground focuses on advancing the skills and knowledge of sea kayak instructors.


Course Goals:

  1. Instructor candidates will improve their teaching methodology  in the open-water environments.
  2. Instructor candidates will learn to structure and deliver authentic ACA assessments.
  3. Certify and update L4 ACA instructors.
  4. Have fun, make friends, and network with fellow paddlers.

Who Should Attend:

  • For New Instructors: If you’re an L4 assessed paddler and an L3 instructor ready to advance your skills, this course is designed for you.
  • For Current L4 Instructors: Get updated, continue learning, and enjoy time on the water.
  • For Practice Students: Even if you don’t meet the prerequisites, you’re welcome to join as a practice student for hands-on learning and fun!

Pricing:

  • $675 for the 4-day course.
  • A $100 down payment is required to reserve your spot. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Final payments must be made before the course begins.
  • Late Fee: Down payments made after August 1st will incur a $50 late charge.

Meet The Instructor Trainers:

Dov Neimand

Dov is an experienced teacher and expedition paddler with over 4,500 expedition nautical miles logged, including his paddles from Spain to Cyprus and New York to Hudson Bay. A Ph.D. in mathematics with a focus on hydrodynamics complements his deep understanding of paddling. Dov is passionate about kinesthetic learning, drawing from his second-degree black belt in Ryukyu Kenpo. His wealth of real-world experience ensures you’ll learn practical skills for instruction and adventure.

Jeff Atkins

Based in the Southeast United States, Jeff is a seasoned Coastal Kayak Instructor Trainer, Advanced Open Water Instructor, and Wilderness First Responder. With certifications in canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and outdoor leadership, Jeff brings a wealth of expertise and an infectious passion for paddling. Known for his approachable coaching style, he’s committed to helping paddlers expand their confidence and skills while having fun on the water.
