L3 ICW August 23 - 27 2020

Breezy Point, and Jamaica Bay, Brooklyn

Experienced expedition paddler Dov Neimand and wizard on the water Ryan Rushton will be running an L3 coastal kayak instructor certification workshop (ICW) in Jamaica Bay and off Breezy Point. The focus of the ICW will revolve around four central goals.

  • Train and certify instructor candidates at their paddling levels, up to L3.
  • Help instructor candidates to develop a solid individual kayaking pedagogy.
  • Sharpen and develop candidates personal paddling and group management skills in L3 conditions.
  • Have fun, make friends, network, and sing kumbaya. 

If you are an L3 assessed paddler and ready to start teaching others, then this course is for you. If you are an L2 instructor ready to up your game, or an avid sea kayaker and you think you have what it takes, reach out to me and we’ll talk. If you have a solid roll, chances are you’re ready, and we’ll get you through the pre course criteria.

Classroom portions of the course will take on line and before the August 23 start date and on water time will be socially distant in a manor consistent with CDC guidlines.

Dov Neimand is an experienced teacher with over 4,500 expedition nautical miles under his belt. Everything that can go wrong, has happened to him, and he has a track record of making sure it doesn't happen to his students.

Ryan Rushton is an ACA L-5 Instructor Trainer Educator (ITE). There is no higher designation in the ACA and Ryan is known for his detailed knowledge of all things kayaking. He has been teaching at home in Alaska and around the world for over 20 years. He is a voting member member of the ACA coastal kayak community.

The price is $150/day for instructor candidates and $75/day for practice students. Spaces are limited and available on a first come first serve basis.

Spaces can be reserved with a non refundable deposit of $100. Reservations made after May 1st will incur a late fee of $25. All final payments must be made before the course starts.

The course will be based around Breezy Point and Jamaica Bay with classroom time and camping at Floyd Bennett Field. If you intend to camp with us, reach out and get a site close by.

The option also exists to take this course as an instructor update, an ICE, or and IDW, so please reach out if interested.
